Healthy Food Snacks
Do you need some ideas for healthy food snacks? On this page, I share some healthy snack recipes with you that I find palatable. Since many of us control ourselves remarkably well during mealtimes but fall flat on our faces in the late evening, we are going to concentrate upon late night snacks with the premise that if we must snack, at least make it healthy. Healthy Snack Recipes You probably also want to keep some hummus on hand - the type in the jar doesn't require fridge space until opened. The ingredients in hummus is chickpeas, tahini (lightly roasted, hulled seeds such as sesame), and a few spices. Hummus on toasted, whole gained pita bread is a delicious appetizer or snack. Another good thing for grazing, because it offers very high nutritional value, is mixed nuts. Generally you hear that almonds deliver you the best bang for your nutritional buck but I feel that the different variety of nuts must be providing different benefits. If you go overboard with nuts are going to defeat the purpose of your diet so put a small amount in the palm of your hand and make sure that handful is very shallow. Cheese as a snack is one of my major dietary issues, and maybe yours? I've always put it on crackers and at one time in my life, it had to be cheese curls or nothing. As healthy food snacks go, cheese offers calcium and protein, and, unfortunately, fat too. As adults, it's okay to lose the cracker and grab an individually packed string cheese or a slice of cheddar. Beware, the string cheese is bland. Wrap your cheese in a lettuce leaf if you like. In cooking, think of cheese as less of an ingredient and more of a condiment. The stronger the flavor of the cheese, such as freshly grated parmesan, the less you need to use. Lay in some red ruby individual grapefruit cups or sugar free applesauce - vacuum sealed for long life in the fridge. Healthy Nutritious Snack Foods That Are CrunchyWhen we were children, lots of us liked potato chips, now we are looking for healthy snack ideas that have crunch. We long for something that's both crunchy and salty. There are many excellent crackers available now that are very high in fiber of the whole-wheat or multigrain type as well as Melba crackers with the two most optimal types being the whole-grain and the rye cracker. An easy recipe to snack your way to a thin waist is to buy a pre-cut, pre-cleaned tray of crudites. If you are like me and don't like them raw, throw them in the microwave a few minutes to steam and then dip them in Tzatziki - a yogurt, cucumber, and garlic product that makes an excellent replacement for sour cream. Yum. Trail Mix is another viable alternative, as is granola bars with low sugar content. Most of these trays have cauliflour, broccoli, carrots, and cherry tomatoes - all healthy food snacks . There is no reason on earth that you can't scoop out all the carrots for a side dish for dinner - it saves so much time cleaning and prepping that you'll wonder why you never used this convenience before. Okay, so these trays tend to be a bit more expensive at your retail grocer, but by now most of us have joined one of the warehouse wholesale stores, and there, they're inexpensive.
Have healthy food snacks on the ready, and lay in other pantry supplies while you're at it.
