Thanksgiving comes but once a year
And aren't you glad of that?
Is there a day more suited to
The rite of getting fat?
Turkey
The turkey's not the culprit, though,
No matter what you think
Far worse in adding calories
Is all the things you drink.
Beer
Our favorite brews may be on hand
To help us start the feast
The alcohol will pack the weight
Forget the hops and yeast.
Wine
And then there is the dinner wine
That flows as from a tap
Your judgment fades as you imbibe
This dietary trap.
Eggnog
Good grief, here comes the eggnog
Do you think there's fat in that?
Compounded with some 90 proof
Assured to make you fat.

The rite of getting fat?
Mashed Potatoes
Potatoes mashed with sour cream
And yet more butter still
Pass 'em up? It's rare that any
Human being will.
Dinner Rolls
Could it be the dinner rolls
Oh, watch that butter melt!
Combined with more white flour
They will hardly make you svelte.
Turkey Dressing
We feasters love the dressing
And the menu won't forget
Do you suppose more butter lurks
Inside this dish? You bet!
